Turkish Towels Becomes a Global Standard Through Cooperation with ETKO: The heritage of craftsmanship meets the digital verification systems of the future
The Turkish towel, one of Denizli's most deeply rooted legacies, has earned a distinctive place around the world through its centuries-old production tradition, high-quality approach, and strong heritage of craftsmanship. This value, which is particularly identified with Denizli's production culture, now stands out as more than merely a home textile product; it has become a symbol of mastery, labor, trust, and a sustainable production approach. Now, this deeply rooted heritage is being carried into a new phase through digitalization and verifiability.
Turkish Towels, brought to life by Denizli Exporters Association (DENİB) with the vision of telling the world the story of the Turkish towel's deep-rooted heritage and production strength in a stronger way, has signed a cooperation agreement with ETKO in order to establish its traceability and certification infrastructure. Through this cooperation, it is aimed that the Turkish Towels brand will become not only an indication of origin, but also an internationally identifiable, verifiable, and sustainable quality standard.
The launch held at DENİB was attended by DENİB family, ETKO representatives, members of the press, and numerous exporters. Bringing together different stakeholders of the sector, the launch served as a strong indicator of the shared vision for the future of the Turkish Towels brand, while also symbolizing the beginning of a new era in the global journey of the Turkish towel.
In the long term, the Turkish Towels Traceability Project is intended to gain recognition before international standards organizations and to ensure that the Turkish Towels standard is accepted on a global scale. In this regard, it is planned to submit applications to international platforms and to increase the visibility of certified producers through international fairs, digital platforms, and labeling systems. In this way, companies producing under the Turkish Towels umbrella are expected to achieve a stronger, more visible, and more reliable position in global markets.
Emphasizing that a critical threshold has been crossed in the Turkish Towels branding journey, which has been carried out by Denizli Exporters Association for nearly 15 years, DENİB President Hüseyin Memişoğlu made the following remarks on the matter:
“As DENİB, we have signed an important cooperation agreement that will enhance the global competitiveness of our Turkish Towels brand. Through the Turkish Towels Traceability Project, which will be implemented within the scope of this agreement, we aim to transform our brand into an internationally identifiable, verifiable, and sustainable quality standard, to ensure that our brand is used by our producers who meet certain standards, and most importantly, to establish a strong infrastructure that will protect our sector internationally. In this direction, within the framework of our cooperation with ETKO, we aim to establish a traceability and certification infrastructure and thus ensure that production processes can be digitally tracked.
The Turkish Towels Traceability Project aims to create a new model of trust in the sector by bringing together traditional production knowledge and modern verification mechanisms. Recording every stage of the production chain and transparently presenting the origin of the product and its production conditions provide a strong response to the expectations of trust, sustainability, and responsible production, which are gaining ever greater importance in today's global trade. In this respect, the project is not only a technical infrastructure that responds to today's needs, but also a strategic transformation step that carries the deeply rooted history of Turkish textiles into the future. Aiming to build a stronger brand identity in international markets while preserving its heritage of craftsmanship, Turkish Towels, through its cooperation with ETKO, is now preparing to represent not only a product group, but also a global standard embodying verifiable quality, transparent production, and sustainable value.
Within the model we will implement, we will document that all production processes, from cotton to yarn and from weaving to packaging, take place in Türkiye. In addition, by including in the system our producers that hold international social and environmental compliance certificates, we plan for our Turkish Towels brand to move beyond being merely a reference to origin and to become the representative of a production standard with proven reliability.
We have established a six-month roadmap for our Traceability Project. While determining our route, we took into consideration conducting national and international standards analyses in order to establish the project's technical infrastructure, including stakeholder opinions, and observing the progress of the process through pilot implementations. Ultimately, we plan to put the certification program into operation at the end of six months.
Hoping that our producers operating under the Turkish Towels brand will achieve a stronger position in international markets, I wish that the step we have taken on the path of traceability and transparency will bring auspicious outcomes for the sector. I would like to extend my thanks to our Board of Directors, Committee Members, ETKO representatives and DENİB team who contributed to this process.”
